Steve Weathersbee has been part of First Tee-Howard County for more than ten seasons, initially joining the organization as a coach, moving up to a Level IV First Tee coach, and taking the helm of the chapter as executive director in 2024. With more than 20 years of experience coaching and mentoring youth, Steve fell in love with golf as an adult, and the First Tee specifically when his daughter joined the program in 2016. In addition to coaching First Tee, Steve teaches group golf classes for Columbia Association and Howard County Parks and Recreation, as well as private golf lessons. Steve is a PGA Associate actively pursuing full membership in the PGA.

After retiring from her career as a nurse, Sondra became involved with First Tee. In her role, she serves as both program coordinator and coach, and this year will be her fifth season with First Tee. She enjoys golf, traveling, and spending time at the beach.

Kathy Eckley
Director of National Schools Program

Kathy came to First Tee as the first Howard County Public Schools P.E. teacher to offer the National School Program to her students at Swansfield Elementary School in 2013. First Tee not only impacted her young students, but fostered a love of golf in this former non-golfer. Kathy now finds herself playing in two women’s leagues weekly and many local tournaments. Though she has retired from public education, Coach Kathy works as our school program liaison for local public and private schools.
