This month, we're talking to board member and chair of one of our organization's signature events, The Taste for The First Tee, Michael Bosica. A native of Ellicott City as well as current resident, Bosica attended Loyola Blakefield in Towson for high school before heading to Philadelphia for college at St. Joseph's University. Now a vice president at the commercial real estate firm Cushman & Wakefield, he is a proud husband to Katie and father to Jake (8), Hannah (5) and Aubrey (3). Read on to learn more about his involvement with The First Tee.
Q: When did you first get involved with The First Tee, and what made you decide to take your commitment to the next level by chairing the committee that organizes such a huge undertaking -- The Taste for The First Tee?
A: I'd heard good things about The First Tee, and have been involved since 2009. This is my fourth year chairing the Taste committee; while I've found being a board member to be rewarding, taking the reins on a key fundraising event pushes your commitment and emphasizes you doing something beyond putting The First Tee on your resume.
Q: What makes the Taste event special?
A: The Taste is one night and everything is donated, from the venue to the band and everything you see including the attendees' time at the event. Other than networking, which is standard at a charity event, this night really shines on what the First Tee is and how it impacts the lives of young people.
Q: What has been your favorite experience with The First Tee?
A: Every time I show up to the Learning Center at Fairway Hills, I think about the countless hours the coaches and students share with each other and how we can witness it first-hand.
Q: Any suggestions for how The First Tee could improve going forward?
A: The First Tee is unique in that it uses a tool (the game of golf) to carry forward its mission statement and core values. It’s always good to make sure each person who walks through the Learning Center understands them and what the organization does on a day-to-day basis. Our community outreach is good, but could be a lot better within Howard County.
Q: What hobbies do you enjoy?
A: Anything outside, reading and just spending time with a large family.
Q: If you could pick any golf course in the world to play, where would it be?
A: Hands down, Augusta National in Augusta GA with my father on a Sunday with a tee time around 2:30 pm.
